QNX Software Systems Signs Twelfth Licensing Agreement with Bitstream; Font Fusion to be Used in QNX Operating System.

Similar to Unix, it has been in use since the early 1980s.  Software Systems has extended its licensing agreement with the company. Under this new agreement, QNX has extended its license for Bitstream's Font Fusion technology. Font Fusion offers exceptional text rendering for mission-critical embedded systems based on the QNX[R] Neutrino[R] realtime operating system See real time operating system.  (RTOS (1) (RealTime Operating System) An operating system designed for use in a real time computer system. See real time system, embedded system, process control and OS-9. ). This agreement is the twelfth agreement between the two companies.

Font Fusion is Bitstream's premier font rasterizing rasterizing - rasterising  engine that renders high-quality characters in any format, at any resolution, on any device.

QNX chose Font Fusion because the font rendering subsystem provides a highly scalable font architecture for the embedded environment.

The QNX and Bitstream partnership spans a ten-year period and encompasses several projects. In addition to Font Fusion, QNX has also licensed Bitstream's highly compact, scalable Asian stroke-based fonts, allowing QNX to provide Asian language support for its many customers in the Asian market. QNX also collaborated with Bitstream's custom font group to develop custom characters from several of Bitstream's font families.
