QMS Named to Supply Color Laser Print Systems for Multi-Million Dollar U.S. Air Force Workstation Program.

MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1996--QMS, Inc. (NYSE:AQM) today announced that it has been named to provide color laser print systems as part of the $950 million U.S. Air Force Workstation (AFWS) procurement contract.

The primary purpose of this acquisition is to obtain the most current state-of-the-art technology at the best value to the government. QMS will supply an estimated $3 million in QMS magicolor CX color laser print systems and consumables for the AFWS contract.

The AFWS procurement will support a wide range of applications, including tactical battle management of forces engaged in combat situations; research, development, testing and evaluation of weapons systems by the scientific and engineering community; and various supporting roles performed by the U. S. Air Force logistics community.

QMS joins the two prime contractors, Sun Microsystems Federal, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SMI, and Hughes Datasystems, as an AFWS supplier.

QMS magicolor Print Systems

QMS offers five models of the QMS magicolor print system, which offer up to 1200 dpi printing, and a host of network-oriented features and performance advantages. The QMS magicolor CX/20 provides 600 x 600 dpi resolution, and prints 3 to 6 ppm in color and 12 ppm in monochrome.

All QMS magicolor CX color laser printers feature a 40 MHz RISC-based internal controller and can accommodate up to 64 MB of RAM and up to 2.1 GB of internal IDE hard drive storage. A comprehensive set of system utilities and drivers are supplied with each printer, including fully featured QuickDraw(R) GX and QMS drivers for Windows(R), which improve overall throughput and ease of use.
