Reference priced at $8,499, the QMS magicolor CX/40 comes fully equipped with network interface, internal hard disk, and all the RAM necessary to print a full color page at 1200 dpi. Other color laser printers offered at low initial prices can cost over $12,000 once the add-on options necessary to deliver high resolution output are added such as RAM, interfaces, and emulations.

QMS Color Laser Printers

All QMS magicolor CX color laser printers feature a 40 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  RISC-based internal controller and can accommodate up to 64 MB of RAM and up to 2.1 GB of internal hard drive. A comprehensive set of system utilities and drivers are supplied with the printers, including QuickDraw GX QuickDraw GX was a replacement for the QuickDraw (QD) 2D graphics engine and Printing Manager inside the "classic" Mac OS. The QMS CrownCopy option expands the functionality of the magicolor CX, allowing it to serve as a convenient color copier as well as a printer. CrownCopy allows the printer to make color copies in the office, at an affordable cost. The copier option includes a flat-bed desktop scanner for copier input and special QMS copy software.

Pricing and Availability

The QMS magicolor CX/40 is available immediately, and comes equipped with 40 MB RAM, Ethernet or Token-Ring network interface, internal hard drive, serverless printing software, SCSI interface SCSI interface - SCSI adaptor , and Energy Star compliance at a reference price of $8,499 (U.S). Owners of other QMS magicolor CX models can upgrade to the CX/40 functionality using a simple software upgrade and industry-standard RAM SIMMS. The software upgrade kit is priced at $129. Memory upgrades are available in 4, 8, 16, and 32 MB SIMMs.

The QMS CrownCopy color copier option is available to QMS magicolor CX customers for $1,499.
