QMS Announces New 1200 dpi QMS magicolor CX; Easy Upgrade Available for Current QMS magicolor CX Owners.

MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1996--QMS, Inc. (NYSE:AQM) today expanded its magicolor color laser printer family with the 1200 dpi QMS magicolor CX/40. The QMS magicolor CX/40 delivers 1200 dpi photographic images, document control, and network features, at a very attractive price. Owners of other QMS magicolor CX models can upgrade to the CX/40 functionality using a simple software upgrade and industry-standard RAM SIMMS.

Reference priced at $8,499, the QMS magicolor CX/40 comes fully equipped with network interface, internal hard disk, and all the RAM necessary to print a full color page at 1200 dpi. Other color laser printers offered at low initial prices can cost over $12,000 once the add-on options necessary to deliver high resolution output are added such as RAM, interfaces, and emulations.

QMS Color Laser Printers

All QMS magicolor CX color laser printers feature a 40 MHz RISC-based internal controller and can accommodate up to 64 MB of RAM and up to 2.1 GB of internal hard drive. A comprehensive set of system utilities and drivers are supplied with the printers, including QuickDraw GX and Windows drivers, to improve overall throughput and ease of use.

All four QMS magicolor CX models include ColorSmooth color screening technology, Qcolor color management tools, and microfine toner support. Qcolor matching capabilities include CIE-based color matching, PANTONE color matching, and ICC 3.0 and ColorSync support. These advanced feature sets translate to outstanding image quality for both business and desktop publishing professionals.

The QMS magicolor CX color printers are based on QMS Crown technology. QMS Crown multitasking architecture delivers fast document print throughput, software loadable system, automatic compatibility with popular printing languages, and seamless connectivity to virtually any network environment. The QMS CrownNet interface provides simultaneous multiprotocol support for multiple users and advanced remote printer management capabilities.

QMS CrownCopy Option

The QMS CrownCopy option expands the functionality of the magicolor CX, allowing it to serve as a convenient color copier as well as a printer. CrownCopy allows the printer to make color copies in the office, at an affordable cost. The copier option includes a flat-bed desktop scanner for copier input and special QMS copy software.

Pricing and Availability

The QMS magicolor CX/40 is available immediately, and comes equipped with 40 MB RAM, Ethernet or Token-Ring network interface, internal hard drive, serverless printing software, SCSI interface, and Energy Star compliance at a reference price of $8,499 (U.S). Owners of other QMS magicolor CX models can upgrade to the CX/40 functionality using a simple software upgrade and industry-standard RAM SIMMS. The software upgrade kit is priced at $129. Memory upgrades are available in 4, 8, 16, and 32 MB SIMMs.

The QMS CrownCopy color copier option is available to QMS magicolor CX customers for $1,499.
