MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1996--QMS Inc. (NYSE: AQM) today announced the QMS magicolor WX, an addition to its award-winning magicolor family of color laser printers.

With a groundbreaking price of $3,999, the QMS magicolor WX establishes new price and performance standards for the color laser printer market. The QMS magicolor WX, designed for use as a workgroup printer in Windows 95 environments, is "Plug and Play" compatible and fully upgradable to the functionality of the popular QMS magicolor CX, enabling users with changing network protocols to extend the printer's operating system, network interfaces, and memory as required.

The QMS magicolor WX provides 600 dpi resolution, and prints 3 to 6 ppm in color and 12 ppm in monochrome. Optimized for Windows 95, the QMS magicolor WX takes full advantage of the printing capabilities and features that users of Windows 95 demand. QMS anticipates producing a complete family of document printers based upon this new architecture, expanding the printing solutions available for Windows-based networks.

Like all QMS print systems, the QMS magicolor WX is fully upgradable. Owners of the QMS magicolor WX will be able to convert the print system to include all of the features of QMS magicolor CX print systems, including QMS Crown, and CrownNet technologies. This simple migration path will enable Windows network users the freedom to build new computing platforms or additional network protocols into their network without making their printing resources obsolete.

With the addition of the QMS magicolor WX, QMS offers the broadest range of color laser printing solutions on the market today. The QMS magicolor WX is complemented by four models of the QMS magicolor CX print system, which offer up to 1200 dpi printing, a host of network-oriented features and performance advantages, and range in price from $5,799 to $8,499.

All QMS magicolor CX color laser printers feature a 40MHz RISC-based internal controller and can accommodate up to 64MB of RAM and up to 2.1 GB of internal IDE hard drive storage. A comprehensive set of system utilities and drivers are supplied with each printer, including fully featured QuickDraw GX and QMS drivers for Windows, which improve overall throughput and ease of use. The QMS magicolor CX includes exclusive features from QMS, such as 1200 dpi ColorDepth color screening technology, QCOLOR color management tools, and microfine toner. These advanced feature sets translate to outstanding image quality for both business and desktop publishing users.
