QB CAMERON RALLIES NEWBURY PARK PAST CAMARILLO.

Junior Colby Cameron, making his first varsity start, passed for 263 yards and two touchdowns as host Newbury Park rallied to beat visiting Camarillo 21-14 in a season opener.

The Panthers' defense forced five turnovers, the last a fumble recovered by Ryne Thoma at the Camarillo 30-yard line with 6:29 to play. Seven plays later, Brian Koenig scored on a 5-yard run to give Newbury Park the victory.

Newbury Park's Derek Taylor Derek Taylor (May 7,1932 – September 8,1997) was a British journalist, best known as the long-serving press agent for the hugely popular rock band, The Beatles. He was a local journalist in Liverpool who worked for the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo, the  and Ron Tatham combined to knock down a fourth-down pass from USC-bound Samson Szakacsy to end Camarillo's final drive with 1:07 to play.

Bryan Anger had 11 receptions for 162 yards with one touchdown for Camarillo (0-1). Szakacsy completed 16 of 17 passes during one stretch but connected on just one of his final 10 pass attempts.

Agoura 14, Ventura 7: Nick Haraden and Mike Cammorata prevented Ventura's Ian Durhan from catching a potential touchdown pass on the final play to preserve the visiting Chargers' comeback victory.

Agoura's Jordan Arias completed 20 of 31 passes, including his first 10 attempts of the second half, for 191 yards and one touchdown. He connected 10 times for 106 yards with Josh Irvin, including a 22-yard, third-quarter touchdown pass to tie the score 7-7.

Matt McGinnis' touchdown run gave Agoura the lead with 4:24 left in the third quarter.

Shane Vereen ran for 89 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries, caught two scoring passes and finished with 301 all-purpose yards. Nicholas Hale pulled in seven catches for 52 yards and two touchdowns.

Schmidt hit Marc Enterante for a 19-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and Brian Kimball for a 28-yard scoring toss in the second.

Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta scored with 2:37 to play on Bryan Harter's 6-yard pass to Cameron Kerley.

Collis threw second-half scoring passes of 70 yards to Kevin Garcia and 9 to Kevin Besslo, who made four second-half receptions for 89 yards. Collis also scored on a 12-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as St. Francis of La Canada Flintridge led 10-0 at the half.
