Q1 Labs Announces New Network Security Management Capabilities for VoIP Networks.

Unique Combination of Network Behavior Analysis and Security Event Correlation Event Correlation is the processes involved with reducing a large number of incident alerts to a much smaller, more manageable number within automated monitoring and incident/problem management in a Support Management System.  Delivers Protection across Network Protocols, Applications and Security Service Layers

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Q1 Labs, a leading network security management company, today announced that it is delivering a new QRadar module specifically designed to offer security monitoring for Voice over IP (VoIP) networks. Q1 Labs' QRadar is the only product that combines network behavior analysis and security event correlation for monitoring across the network protocol, application, and security services Security services are state institutions for the provision of intelligence, primarily of a strategic nature, but also including protective security intelligence. Examples include the Security Service (MI5) and the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in the United Kingdom, and the  layers of a VoIP network.

Companies that have deployed VoIP are challenged in being able to effectively monitor their voice application traffic as well as the security devices that protect them. Without effective monitoring, VoIP traffic is subject to issues such as bandwidth contention and traffic jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle  and opens itself up to security threats that include toll fraud (false long-distance call charges), man-in-the-middle attacks (hijacking hijacking

QRadar's VoIP module provides customers with a set of security event correlation rules, application signatures, and specific VoIP security reports. These are designed to help customers better monitor their voice application traffic, correlate events from security devices protecting the network, while detecting and reporting on specific threats to VoIP servers and applications.

"We were already using QRadar to monitor and manage the security of our network and applications, which includes Voice over IP," said Alphonse Edouard, Vice President of Information Technology at Dune dune, mound or ridge of wind-blown sand formed in arid regions and along coasts. Dunes are common in most of the great deserts of the world. Often a dune begins to form because material is deposited by the wind as it encounters a bush, a rock, or other obstacle to  Capital Management. "These additional capabilities will further improve our visibility into our VoIP traffic and the overall preparedness of our network and servers to deal with VoIP-specific threats."

"Voice is an increasingly critical component of customer networks. In order to correctly monitor and secure VoIP applications, customers need be able to unify their view of the network, the applications on that network, and the security products that defend those applications," said Tom Turner, Vice President of Marketing for Q1 Labs. "QRadar is the only product in the market that can provide that converged view. These new VoIP features further improve the security management and monitoring capabilities for all of our customers and prospects."

The QRadar VoIP module includes:

VoIP Correlation Rules: Rules that correlate events taken from multiple VoIP source devices including Call Managers, IP PBXs, and voice gateways. QRadar's correlation rules detect toll fraud attempts as well as denial of service conditions against PBXs and other voice control servers.

Daily, Weekly and Monthly VoIP-Event Summary Reports: Reports detailing the number of VoIP associated security and policy events that are being created on a network, an indicator of the overall health of a VoIP network.

Executive VoIP Reports: A high-level look at the activity on a VoIP network. VoIP Security event data, as well as network behavior data from the VoIP specified network are combined to give an overall view of voice network performance.

Pricing and Availability

These QRadar VoIP security features will be available free of charge to all Q1 Labs customers through QRadar 5.2 Auto Update 3 which will ship on February 2, 2007.
