The defending Golden League champion talked with the Daily News about her impressive summer, her strong start to the season and how she hopes to conclude her prep career.

Daily News: Katie, you enjoyed an outstanding summer, producing impressive results in several tournaments. What were some of the highlights for you?

Katie Dilger: Being selected to the JAGS All-Star team was definitely one of them. I also played back-to-back events, spending three days in Palm Springs and then turning around and playing four consecutive days in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. . I had to focus more than ever to get through those tournaments. And obviously winning at Tijeras Creek gave me a lot of confidence.

DN: You've had several top-10 finishes at junior events in recent months, but what made winning the tournament at Tijeras Creek so special?

KD: I won it in a playoff play·off also play-off

Noun 1.
. It was my first playoff and I was competing against a really talented golfer in (Torrance's ) Demi Runas. It was two long days and I really wanted to go home, but I was so happy when I won. I was nervous teeing off on the first playoff hole because there were so many people watching People watching or crowd watching is a hobby of some people to watch those around them and their interactions. DN: You said the first playoff hole. How long did it last?

KD: It took three holes before I finally won. We started on the 18th hole and then went to the 10th hole because they were positioned so close to each other. She would par, then I would par and then she made par again and so did I. We went back to the 18th and she made par and I sunk a birdie, and I was so relieved when it was over. You have a bad hole during your round and you can recover, but you have a bad hole in a playoff and you're done.

DN: You took fourth at a JAGS event two weeks ago in Encinitas. How did you feel about that tournament?

KD: I shot a 75 in the first round and I wasn't feeling that great, so I was surprised I did that well. Then I shot a 42 on the front nine the next round, but I didn't lose confidence and I came back and shot a 36 on the back nine, which made me really happy. Those are the rounds you learn the most from. It taught me that I can't give up because even though you might not win, you can still place really well.

DN: How has competing in the JAGS and Toyota Tour Cup events made you a better high school golfer?

KD: The most obvious thing is the rounds are shorter, so it's a lot easier to stay focused playing nine holes than it is playing two-day tournaments that are 18 holes each day. But I think being able to walk the course for 18 holes gives me an advantage when CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF).  comes around because I know mentally I can handle that challenge. Also in high school we're playing on much shorter tees than in JAGS events, which could be the difference of as much as 1,000 yards.

DN: You've also had the opportunity to play with your freshman sister Jennifer for the first time in high school. What's that been like?

KD: At first I didn't think I would like it, but it's worked out well. I really enjoy having her on the team and she's trying to play in more tournaments, which should help her improve.

DN: With less than a month before the playoffs begin, what are your goals for the remainder of the season?

KD: I want to go as far as possible in CIF, both individually and as a team. I want to set a few more records and break the records I already have. I have a Toyota Tour Cup event in early October and a JAGS event in late October, so playing in those tournaments should get me ready for CIF.
