What is chromium chromium (krō`mēəm) [Gr.,=color], metallic chemical element; symbol Cr; at. no. 24; at. wt. 51.996; m.p. about 1,857°C;; b.p. 2,672°C;; sp. gr. about 7.2 at 20°C;; valence +2, +3, +6.  picolinate?

Chromium is a metal, something our body needs. It serves in the production of insulin,which is important in the metabolism of the body's natural sugars. However, we only need a dosage dosage /dos·age/ (do´saj) the determination and regulation of the size, frequency, and number of doses.

What does it do?

As a supplement, chromium picolinate is a product that claims to raise your metabolism and encourage weight loss. However, there is no scientific proof that it will do either of those things. How will I know if I am lacking in chromium?

You won't. There really are no symptoms and there is no test to check.

Little is known about it since it is not regulated. However, fluctuating dosage levels and taking large amounts are not recommended because there are no known positive effects. What's more, your system can have a hard time adjusting to the loss once you cut back on large dosages of chromium.
