Putnam Names Frank McNamara General Counsel.

 III, 48, will become General Counsel and Senior Managing Director, effective April 19. Mr. McNamara will succeed William H. Woolverton, who will be retiring from Putnam. Mr. McNamara will report directly to Putnam's Chief Executive Officer Ed Haldeman.

Mr. McNamara previously served nine years as General Counsel and a member of the Management Committee at State Street Research & Management Company. Prior to 1995, he was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for The Boston Company Inc. Mr. McNamara began his career as an associate at Ropes & Gray in Boston.

Mr. McNamara is a member of the SEC Rules Committee of the Investment Company Institute and Chairman of the Legal and Regulatory Committee of the Investment Counsel Association of America.

Mr. McNamara received a B.A. from Dartmouth College Dartmouth College, at Hanover, N.H.; coeducational; chartered 1769, opened 1770, the ninth colonial college (see Wheelock, Eleazar). Originally a men's college, Dartmouth began admitting women in 1972.  and earned his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School The University of Michigan Law School, located in Ann Arbor, is a unit of the University of Michigan.
