Pulse and Intel Jointly Develop New SMT Dual Port T1/E1 Front End Module With Complete Protection Circuitry; New Module Saves 50 to 60 Percent of PCB Space Over Discrete Implementation.

Business Editors & High-Tech Writers

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2002

Pulse jointly developed with Intel a dual surface-mount transformer protection module for T1/E1 applications.

Fully matched and compatible with Intel's 3108 LIU LIU Linköpings Universitet (Sweden)
LIU Long Island University (New York)
LIU Line Interface Unit
LIU Lightguide Interconnection Unit (AT&T)
LIU Laugh It Up
, the T9050 is a state-of-the-art T1/E1 line interface module that provides both line-side and chip-side protection, providing customers a complete protection circuit solution.

The T9050 is ideal for providing protection for integrated circuits (ICs) used in voice gateways, wireless base stations, wide area networks (WANs), digital access cross-connect systems (DACS DACS Data & Analysis Center for Software
DACS Design and Analysis of Communication Systems (University of Twente, Netherlands)
DACS Digital Access & Cross-Connect System
DACS Data Acquisition and Control System (NASA)
), channel banks and switches.

With integrated magnetics and protection circuitry, this new module uses up to 60 percent less board space, thereby reducing production costs, component count, and engineering design time.

The T9050 module integrates transformers for high potential isolation, common mode chokes for electromagnetic interference See EMI.  (EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference) An electrical disturbance in a system due to natural phenomena, low-frequency waves from electromechanical devices or high-frequency waves (RFI) from chips and other electronic devices. Allowable limits are governed by the FCC. ) filtering, IC side protection circuitry to suppress low voltage transients, and line-side protection circuitry for surge protection.

The module provides the required 1500 Vrms line isolation and protects the high-speed data interfaces from over-voltages caused by electrostatic discharge and electrical fast transients.

In telecommunications applications, protection circuitry is needed to prevent equipment damage caused by over-voltage and over-current power surges due to lightning strikes and AC power cross disturbances. The T9050 is designed to meet the major surge immunity and electrical safety standards, including Telcordia GR 1089, FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  Part 68, and UL 1950.

Other protection modules matched to leading T1/E1 IC manufacturers are also being developed. Contact Pulse's Applications Engineering department for more information.

Technical information

The T1/E1 module, part number T9050, has an inductance value of 1.2 milli henries and turns ratio of 1:1. The operating temperature range is 0 degrees Celsius to +70 degrees Celsius.

Pricing and Availability

The new series is currently available in tube packaging as well as tape and reel, with prices starting at $19.50 per unit in quantities of 5,000. Lead time is four to six weeks.
