) Company, one of the world's largest electronic component manufacturers and a leader in passive, magnetic-based components, announces a new line in its family of through-hole, shielded, shaped-core power inductors. Designed for PC motherboard and server markets, the PG0322NL series is ideal for use in voltage regulator modules (VRMs), DC/DC converters, and point of load applications.

The PG0322NL inductors have a high heating current rating of 32 amperes to 60 amperes (A) and a high current saturation capability from 30A to 50A, ideal for high current, multiphase buck converter applications. The series has an operating temperature range of minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 130 degrees Celsius, providing power supply design engineers enough margin for thermal derating Derating is the technique employed in power electrical and electronic devices wherein the devices are operated at less than their rated maximum power dissipation taking into consideration the case/body temperature, ambient temperature and the type of cooling mechanism used.  especially for high ambient temperature applications. The PG0322NL series offers a wide open circuit inductance (OCL (language) OCL - 1. Operator Control Language.

), ranging from 0.28 to 1.20 microhenries which gives the engineers a free hand in choosing the inductance value for the smallest ripple current and fastest system transient response. The low direct current resistance (DCR DCR Department of Conservation and Recreation

) ranging from 0.60 to 1.65 milliohms yields higher system efficiency due to lower copper losses. Both the OCL and DCR have tight tolerances of plus or minus 15 percent and plus or minus 8 percent respectively, allowing for more accurate current sensing in systems using the inductor as the current sense element.

The PG0322NL series is designed with a ferrite core material rather than the iron powder material typically used in existing motherboard inductor solutions. Inductors with an iron powder core have a high power loss in the core material. The ferrite core material has 60 percent less core loss, resulting in low power use and less heat generation. The ferrite core also eliminates the risk of thermal aging core failures.

The low-cost PG0322NL power cube inductor series package height of 9.5 millimeters is optimal to fit underneath the processor heatsink. The compact 14.5 millimeter x 14.5 millimeter footprint minimizes board space. These inductors are RoHS compliant and meet the EIA (Electronic Industries Alliance, Arlington, VA, www.eia.org) A membership organization founded in 1924 as the Radio Manufacturing Association. It sets standards for consumer products and electronic components. 481 standard.

Parts in this series are available in trays with prices averaging $0.18 per unit for a quantity of 100,000 units. Individual part pricing may vary due to volume, configuration and shipping destination. Contact Pulse directly for volume pricing and samples. Parts are available for immediate delivery. Detailed technical specifications are available on datasheet P642 located on the Pulse website at http://www.pulseeng.com/pdf/P642.pdf.
