 brought a [section] 1983 action claiming that their free exercise of religion rights were violated through regulations that required them to worship jointly with Sunni Muslims. The district court dismissed the case, finding the regulations were not facially violative of the prisoners' First Amendment rights. The court noted that the Shi'ite Muslims had made a showing of a violation of their rights by the conduct of the Muslim chaplain who disparaged them and tried to convert them into Sunni Muslims, but that this violation appeared to have been curbed by prison officials. (Fishkill Correctional Facility Fishkill Correctional Facility is a medium security prison in New York, USA. The prison is located in both the Town of Fishkill and the City of Beacon in Dutchess County .

Fishkill was constructed in 1896. It began as the Matteawan State Hospital for the criminally insane.
