:INGR) Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today announced Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA PREPA Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority ) has signed a contract valued at $4.3 million with Intergraph for additional services involved in the roll-out of its Geospatial Resource Management (GRM GRM Gross Rent Multiplier

) system. The contract calls for Intergraph to provide implementation services to fine-tune and ready the system for production. PREPA provides electric services to the entire island of Puerto Rico, including some 1.4 million customers across more than 3,400 square miles. With more than 10,200 employees, PREPA is one of the largest electric utilities in the United States.

PREPA initiated its GRM project, called Administracion Integrada de Recursos (AIRe), to help prepare for and manage restoration efforts associated with the country's annual hurricane threat. AIRe combines work management with geographic information system geographic information system (GIS)

Computerized system that relates and displays data collected from a geographic entity in the form of a map. The ability of GIS to overlay existing data with new information and display it in colour on a computer screen is used primarily to
(GIS) and outage management and integrates with numerous other enterprise systems to provide everyone in the enterprise - from executives to field personnel - with instant electronic access to the operational information required to complete their jobs faster and more efficiently. PREPA personnel can respond to a hurricane disaster with more efficient damage assessment and restoration efforts, as well as provide better customer service on a daily basis.

"PREPA is very pleased with everyone's commitment to the AIRe Project. This additional work will assist PREPA with its implementation of a comprehensive GRM system. There should be a significant reduction in administrative and operations personnel once the system is in full operation. The systems have the potential to streamline PREPA's transmission and distribution operations and eliminate many of the redundant processes that are currently required to support management and operation of the T&D department," said Juan Arroyo, Head of the Electric Distribution Division of Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority. "We look forward to extending the project's current success so that we can consolidate all our business practices."

Currently, PREPA's work management system (WMS WMS Warehouse Management System

), based on STORMS WMS provided by Worksuite, and GIS, based on Intergraph's G/Electric software, are fully operational. With the new contract, field inventory and data collection, including meter collection, and data conversion are augmented. PREPA will use the fully implemented system to manage 400,000 distribution poles, 225,000 streetlight poles, 150,000 distribution transformers and 28,000 distribution line miles - all serving 1.4 million customers. Once completed, PREPA plans to integrate transmission, substation and distribution operational workflows within the GIS, WMS and outage management system An Outage Management System (OMS) is a computer system used by operators of electric distribution systems to assist in restoration of power. Major Functions of an OMS
Major functions usually found in an OMS include:
(OMS OMS - Opportunity Management System ) through the use of an extensive geofacilities network data model that accesses computer-aided design (CAD) detail drawings, third-party engineering analysis software, and facilities materials and labor information. Additionally, PREPA's customer information system and supervisory control and data acquisition (application) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition - (SCADA) Systems are used in industry to monitor and control plant status and provide logging facilities. SCADA systems are highly configurable, and usually interface to the plant via PLCs.  system (SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) A process control application that collects data from sensors and machines on the shop floor or in remote locations and sends them to a central computer for management and control. ) will be interfaced with the OMS, based on Intergraph's InService product, to receive and route customer trouble reports and routine work orders.

Intergraph is partnering with Analytical Surveys, Inc. for the field inventory and data conversion. Intergraph will also provide quality assurance and acceptance testing of the system under the new contract. Work is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2005.
