Publicly traded forest products companies post strong third quarters.Business is looking up for the movers and shakers of the forest products industry. Several of the publicly traded companies posted double-digit profits in the third quarter of 2004, compared to the same period last year. Weyerhaeuser Co. of Federal Way, WA, reported its highest quarterly profit ever in the third quarter ended Sept. 28. The company reported earnings of $594 million, compared to $82 million in the same period last year. It was a strong follow-up to the company's second quarter profit of $369 million. Temple-Inland Inc. of Austin, TX, reported a third quarter net income of $41 million, compared to a third quarter net loss of $3 million last year. Total third-quarter revenues were $1.194 billion.
