Public review of TAPPI Test Methods.

The new system for review and development of TAPPI TAPPI Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry  Test Methods (reference TAPPI JOURNAL, September, 2000, p. 46) requires an announcement of review dates for methods so that any interested TAPPI members may access the drafts and submit comments.

Listed are the methods that will be up for review from January 2002 through June 2002. The date indicated is the date on which the draft will be posted for review by TAPPI members in the Members Only section of the TAPPI web site. Go to the home page (www.tappi.org), log on with your member ID and password, click on the "Standards" link at the top of the page, and then follow the links indicated. You do not have to be a member of the Standard Specific Interest Group for any method in order to comment on the draft.

If you have joined the Standard Specific Interest Group or the General Interest Group for any of these methods, you will receive a notice for ballot at the proper time with instructions for casting your vote and making your comments. If you wish to john the Standard Specific Interest Group for a particular method, please contact Charles Bohanan at TAPPI (cbohanan@tappi.org, or phone + 1 770 209-7276 or fax +1 770 446-6947).

TAPPI at the Paper Summit 2002

March 4-6, 2002, Atlanta, Georgia

TAPPI's unique and comprehensive technical program, the TAPPI Technology Summit, joins the Paper Summit 2002 machinery show and exhibit to deliver a multifaceted look at the latest innovations, the newest ideas and the best solutions available in the papermaking industry. TAPPI is sponsoring three unique events as part of the TAPPI Technology Summit.

The first is the 2002 Papermakers and Process Control, Electrical & Information Joint Conference. These TAPPI divisions have joined together to offer a one-of-a-kind joint conference to cover all facets of papermaking. Sessions will come from all areas of papermakers and PCE&I as well as from ISA-PUPID, the Water Removal and Fluid Mechanics committees of the Engineering division, the Microbiological Committee, and the Finishing & Converting division.

Second is the Kraft Pulp Yield Workshop. This two-day workshop will focus on the operational aspects of increasing kraft pulp yield and reports on best practices lot increasing kratt pulp yield and reducing pulp manufacturing costs. Covers the elements of pulp yield, the relationship between wood and pulp yield, delignification, methods to increase pulp yield, and the effect it has on kraft recovery.

Finally, those interested in reducing energy costs should take a look at the Energy Results Showcase. The Department of Energy sponsors this two-part event. Part one features mill representatives and consulting engineering firms discussing methods to lower energy costs. Part two includes a trip to Augusta, Georgia to study recent changes at Augusta Newsprint Company.

All of this takes place in conjunction with the foremost pulp and paper industry The global pulp and paper industry is dominated by North American (United States, Canada), northern European (Finland, Sweden) and East Asian countries (such as Japan). Australasia and Latin America also have significant pulp and paper industries.  equipment and technology exhibit in North America, the Paper Summit--formerly known as "The TAPPI Show". Held every three year's in Atlanta, it is the primary gathering for paper company management and technical personnel to talk with suppliers, view equipment and make purchasing decisions.
