Public relations angencies: ranked by 2007 L.A. county net fee income.EXECUTIVE SUMMARY THE local office of Edelman claimed the top spot on the list of independent public relations firms for the second consecutive year. The firm reported local net income of $13.5 million, up $2.4 million or 21 percent from 2006. Los Angeles-based Rogers Group held the second spot on the fist, ranked by L.A. County net fee income, with $8.9 million in local fee revenue. That's down $1.2 million or 12 percent from 2006. Many firms on the list saw increases in fee income during 2007. Los Angelesbased Englander & Associates saw the biggest percentage increase. The firm reported $3.3 million in net fee income, up $1 million or 46 percent over 2006. Marina del Rey-based Mahan and Nash reported $1.5 million in net fee income, up $400,000 or 36 percent over the previous year. With net fee income topping $7 million, Murphy O'Brien Inc. reported the third largest percentage increase. The Santa Monica-based firm saw income grow by 34 percent year to year. Overall, the 20 largest independent public relations firms reported $83 million in L.A. County net fee income for 2007. The firms saw an aggregate $5.9 million, or 8 percent increase, compared with 2006. They employ more than 400 professionals in their local offices. --David Nusbaum THE PACESETTER THE Los Angeles office of international public relations firm Edelman tops the list of the largest firms ranked by L.A. County revenues. The Chicago-based firm reported local fee income of $13.5 million in 2007, up $2.3 million over the previous year. The Los Angeles office handles accounts for numerous large clients based in other cities and around the globe, in addition to many local companies. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] One of its largest industries is the technology sector. The firm handles accounts for News Corp.'s MySpace and Fox Interactive Media. It also represents Hulu LLC, a joint venture of NBC Universal and News Corp. launched in 2007. The Los Angeles-based company broadcasts programming on the Internet. Its lineup includes full-length current primetime programs such as "The Office," full-length feature films and clips from popular TV shows. The digital entertainment field also includes Microsoft as a client. The firm handles public relations for its Xbox video game system. Other representative areas include retail and entertainment. On the retail front, one of its largest clients is Starbucks Corp. On the entertainment side, it represents Warner Home Entertainment. Founded in 1965, Edelman has 45 offices worldwide. The firm generated $414 million in revenues worldwide during 2007, up $76 million, or 22 percent compared with 2006. The firm employs nearly 2,500 people worldwide, including 84 people in its Mid-Wilshire office.
