At the Global Kids Annual Youth Conference, War--Stop It! Peace... Be It! on Thursday, March 27, 2003, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at New School University's Tischman Auditorium (66 West 12th Street in Manhattan), high school students from across New York City New York City: see New York, city.

Following speeches by experts, and building on extensive research that the youth will have conducted in preparation for the conference, students will engage in informed discussions about military conflict, social justice, and international cooperation.

The Conference is being organized by youth from Global Kids, an organization that educates New York City youth about international and public affairs Those public information, command information, and community relations activities directed toward both the external and internal publics with interest in the Department of Defense. Also called PA. See also command information; community relations; public information.  and seeks to involve them in the public discussions that are fundamental to democracy. Youth involved in Global Kids classroom, after school, and citywide programs will lead the conference workshops and work with their peers and adults to develop realistic strategies to achieve peace and give youth a voice in shaping domestic and international policies. The conference will also feature a performance of Undesirable Elements, a theatre piece created by Global Kids youth that will addresses the past and future effects of war in the United States and abroad.

GK's Annual Youth Conference is the culmination of months of research, dialogue, and intensive leadership training for 200 NYC public high school students in GK's Power of Citizenry Leadership Program. The process of learning about critical local and global issues and planning, organizing, and preparing for the conference allows youth to gain valuable academic and leadership skills.

Global Kids, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit educational organization that seeks to prepare urban youth to become global citizens and community leaders and ensure that young people of diverse backgrounds have the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to succeed in the workplace and participate in the shaping of public policy and international affairs. Global Kids works towards this goal by providing academic enrichment, leadership training, and opportunities for international and cross-cultural dialogue for inner-city youth.
