Employing a conversational writing style and real-life applications to illustrate abstract concepts, this text presents difficult material in step-by-step fashion. The book begins with an overview of psychological testing and assessment and background on historical, legal, ethical, and cultural issues, and then covers the science of psychological measurement, with material on reliability, validity, and statistics, and test construction. Later chapters cover the assessment of intelligence and personality, and look at testing and assessment in action, in areas such corporate culture and substance abuse. Gender and diversity issues are emphasized throughout the entire text. New to this seventh edition are 16 profiles of assessment professionals in various fields, with extended versions of the profiles available at the book's companion website. This edition also offers updated coverage of legal and ethical issues, a new chapter on test utility, and new material on subjects such as behavioral profiling and collaborative assessment. B&w photos are included in a two-color layout. Cohen is a consultant. Swerdlik is affiliated with Illinois State University.
