), a leading supplier of radio frequency (RF) wireless data communications products, today announced that it is working with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's China Educational Technology Initiative (MIT-CETI) program to connect schools in China to the Internet using wireless technology.

Proxim is providing its RangeLAN2 wireless bridges to the MIT MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology  students to extend the Internet and World Wide Web from a central site to other remote schools. The wireless technology not only demonstrates the use of advanced wireless networking technology to the students in China, but also offers an easy means of linking China's schools to the rest of the world.

The MIT-CETI has sent thirteen MIT undergraduates to connect the top five high schools located throughout China to the Internet this summer. The program uses technology and the World Wide Web as a medium to build international communication and understanding between students in China and the United States. A milestone was set last year when founders Ronald Cao and Jake Seid established the first Web server for a high school in China.

"In evaluating how we could extend a direct Internet connection from a central school to several others, we found that there was not an easy way to implement a wired network," said Roger Hu, MIT-CETI's technical coordinator. "Wireless technology provided the most cost-effective option, and Proxim's technology was an ideal solution. Using such technology provides the means for Chinese students to learn more about emerging Internet technologies, including Java and video teleconferencing."

"The MIT-CETI program is an impressive effort illustrating how the United States can share knowledge, ideas and advanced technologies with a new generation of students in China," said David C. King, chairman, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.
