Protexis' Fourth Patent Approved, Further Expanding Its IP Portfolio for E-commerce and DRM for Digital Content.

) services for software publishers, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has approved a patent that expands the company's patent holdings surrounding its system of copy protection, electronic licensing, and e-commerce services for software and digital content. Three other patents covering fundamental aspects of the Protexis platform have already been issued, with several others pending.

These patents cover unique product activation Product activation is a license validation procedure required by some proprietary computer software programs. Specifically, product activation refers to a method where a software application hashes hardware serial numbers and an ID number specific to the product's license (a  technology that enables Protexis to offer software publishers new ways to market and license their software. Using dynamic encryption, publishers can provide their customers the ability to sample and share new software features, ultimately increasing revenue for publishers at very low cost.
