Protests over US bombs; MIDDLE EAST WAR: DAY 19.

ANTI-war protesters yesterday claimed victory after two bomb flights to Israel were diverted from Prestwick Airport.

The US planes - believed to be carrying 600lb bunker busters were re-routed to a US Air Force base in southern England.

And aircraft from Kelly Air Force Base Kelly Air Force Base was a United States Air Force base located in San Antonio, Texas. In 2001, the runway and land west of the runway became "Kelly Field Annex" and control of it was transferred to the adjacent Lackland Air Force Base.  in Texas, had been expected yesterday at Prestwick, en route to Tel AVIV.

But the USAF at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk instead confirmed two Atlas cargo flights arrived there on Saturday night.

One left yesterday afternoon, with the other to follow later.

More than 200 protesters gathered yesterday at Prestwick as it emerged the US was refused entry to Irish airspace.

The crowd were cleared from the terminal by police and carried on their action outside.

"One is the Scottish people don't want those planes to land. The other is it is dangerous."

A spokesman for Prestwick said the airport was obliged to allow the planes to land.
