Protesters gather for Gaddafi.

Summary: Protesters are expected to greet Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi when he speaks at the United Nations in New York on Wednesday.

Protesters are planning to greet Colonel Muammar Gaddafi when he speaks at the United Nations in New York on Wednesday.

Demonstrations are expected outside the compound by relatives of the Lockerbie bombing as the Libyan leader is speaking to the general assembly.

The appearance of Gaddafi so soon after the release of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, who was convicted of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, is controversial and likely to draw lots of attention in the US.

Of the 270 lives lost when the plane crashed after exploding over the Scottish town, 189 were American.

Relatives of those killed in the bombing will be joined by people who lost loved ones in the September 11th attacks.
