Proposals sought for World Trade Center transportation projects.


The much anticipated Downtown transportation projects are getting underway as two government agencies responsible for the rebuilding of the World Trade C enter issued requests for proposals last week.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, self-sustaining public corporation established in 1921 by the states of New York and New Jersey to administer the activities of the New York–New Jersey port area, which has a waterfront of c.  is seeking architectural and engineering services to include preliminary engineering, final design, and related professional services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products.  for the construction of the WTC WTC World Trade Center, see there  PATH Terminal.

Daniel Libeskind will be the lead architect, with the consultant to prepare a design based on Libeskind's overall plan of the permanent WTC PATH terminal.

The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and the Port Authority are also seeking a consultant to conduct a six- to nine-month study on the alternatives to provide rail access to the Downtown business district from the John F.  subway system will link to Air Train, a light-rail transit system at the Kennedy Airport, currently being built by the Port Authority to connect to the airport's nine terminals.

The firm to be chosen in August will look at long-term alternatives including possible construction of a new tunnel under the East River as well as new subway tracks to connect downtown with the Jamaica station. The long-term projects are slated for completion in 2013. Also to be considered for a short-term solution are new ferry routes to the airport.
