Promotion At WGRZ-TV Announced by Gannett.


ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1999--

Darryll J. Green has been promoted to president and general manager at WGRZ-TV, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate in Buffalo, N.Y.

He had been vice president/broadcast since March 1997. Green replaces Larry Herbster who announced his retirement recently.

The announcement was made by Cecil L. Walker, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Gannett Broadcasting.

"Darryll has held various top management positions in radio and in television. His experience, coupled with his personal commitment to the people in the Buffalo area, will help WGRZ Channel 2 to better serve the needs of our viewers in the future," said Walker.

Prior to serving as vice president/broadcast, WGRZ, Green was vice president/general manager of WGCI AM/FM AM/FM Amplitude Modulation / Frequency Modulation
AM/FM Auto-Mapping/Facilities Management
, the previously Gannett-owned radio station in Chicago, since 1994. Green was vice president/station manager for WGCI for four years.

He also served as vice president/controller and operation director of WGCI-AM. He began his career with Gannett in 1983 as a senior auditor. Prior to joining Gannett, Green was senior accountant with Deloitte Haskins & Sells in Rochester, N.Y. He is a certified public accountant Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Gannett Broadcasting consists of 21 television stations covering 16.6 percent of U.S. TV homes.

Upon approval, Gannett will exchange KVUE-TV for KXTV (ABC-Sacramento). After this transaction, Gannett Television will cover 17.3 percent of TV homes across the USA.

Gannett Broadcasting also consists of cable operations in Kansas, North Carolina and Oklahoma. In addition to its broadcast operations, Gannett publishes 74 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine.
