Promoting patient-centered health care.

People all over the world want the same things from their health care: reliable health information, access to treatment, and respect for individual needs and values.

People first

The International Alliance of Patients' Organizations (IAPO IAPO International Association of Physical Oceanography ) was formed to advocate for these basic needs.

The IAPO promotes patient-centered health care, an approach that empowers people to be active partners in their care. It's it's

The members of the IAPO are organizations who represent people with the spectrum of chronic disease--from arthritis arthritis, painful inflammation of a joint or joints of the body, usually producing heat and redness. There are many kinds of arthritis. In its various forms, arthritis disables more people than any other chronic disorder.  and cancer to diabetes and MS. Some are community-based and others are national or international. They all provide services and help their members advocate for good public policies.

Declaring the mission possible

To spread the word about their mission, the IAPO drafted the "Declaration on Patient-Centred Healthcare," outlining the practices and principles that give people the means to be engaged in their health care: respect for individual needs and values; choices for treatment and empowerment em·pow·er
