Progress Software Honors Award-Winning Application Partners at Annual User's Conference.

Thirteen Progress customers were recognized at Exchange 2004 for being named Laureates for the 2004 Computerworld Honors 21st Century Achievement Awards. Two were selected as finalists by the Computerworld Honors Program -- Perkins School for the Blind Perkins School for the Blind, at Watertown, Mass.; chartered 1829, opened 1832 in South Boston as the New England Asylum for the Blind, with Samuel G. Howe as its director; moved 1912.  and Kirchner Corporation -- with Kirchner Corporation receiving the final award for innovation in manufacturing with its application by Progress AP Jargon Software. Standing room only sessions gave attendees insights into Service Oriented Architecture, RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. The tag, also known as an "electronic label," "transponder" or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an antenna.  and the UI-independent capabilities of the Progress OpenEdge platform, which allows developers to provide users with any client, including .NET. New research by Infostructure Associates comparing total cost of ownership (TCO) and return-on-investment (ROI) of different integrated development environments (IDEs) was released at Exchange 2004. The study concluded that by developing applications using OpenEdge Studio (based on the Progress 4GL), factors such as speed to market and related post-deployment cost savings, software developers could achieve a 33 percent reduction in TCO when compared to any 3GL including C++/.NET and end users could realize an improvement in ROI of 53 percent. One-third of the numerous technology breakout sessions were presented by Progress APs and customers, and the general sessions showcased the innovative use of OpenEdge by Progress partners, emphasizing again the value Progress places on its community of developers and APs.
