BEDFORD, Mass. -- Progress Software Corporation (Nasdaq: PRGS PRGS Phosphoribosylglycinamide Synthetase ), a provider of leading application infrastructure software to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today announced that Matthijs Van Der Lely, chief executive officer of Boekhandels Groep Nederland (BGN), the Netherlands' largest book retailer, has been awarded the RFID Visionary Award for 2006 at the RFID Breakthrough Awards.

Earlier this year, BGN made a significant breakthrough in remote store automation with the deployment of item-level RFID (Radio Frequency Identification See RFID. ) as part of an SOA (1) (Start Of Authority) The first record in a DNS zone file. See DNS records.

, London on November 8, celebrate the achievements and reward the successes of those using RFID technology across the world. Nominations for this year's awards were received from six continents and were from a wide range of industry sectors, including retail, libraries, logistics, healthcare, construction and aviation.

The Awards were judged by a panel of RFID thought leaders including Dr. Gerd Wolfram wolfram: see tungsten. , the driving force behind Metro Group's RFID-enabled Future Store in Germany; Nigel Montgomery, head of European Research, AMR (1) (Adaptive Multi-Rate) A variable rate speech codec selected by the 3GPP for the 3G evolution of the GSM cellphone system (WCDMA). Using the Algebraic CELP (ACELP) compression technology, AMR provides toll quality sound at transmission rates from 4.75 to 12.  Research; Chris Rezendes, vice president of Venture Development Corporation and Ivano Ortis, program manager for IDC European Vertical Markets.
