Patented technology securely bonds extruded Santoprene thermoplastic elastomer profiles to single-sided pressure-sensitive self-adhesive tape. This process is said to greatly reduce material costs and production time involved in making specialist extrusions such as high-performance weather seals for automotive, building, construction and other applications. Typically, weather seals are said to be mounted on a surface using mechanical devices such as pins, grooves, channels, clips, wire carriers and liquid adhesives. In recent years, pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes have been adopted as a superior fixing method on extruded seals using costly heat-activated tape applied with imported laminating machines, according to the company. The company's patented method is said to deliver significant cost savings because it directly bonds the pressure-sensitive tape to the Santoprene profile as it is extruded. The production process is said to facilitate maximum extruder output, line speed and bond quality/consistency. For high volumes, tape can be applied across multiple profile sections on the one extrusion at the same time. The process is also said to offer accuracy and flexibility, and a strong and consistent bond.
