) today announced that seven NXT NXT Next  licensees have developed product incorporating flat panel speaker technology. NXT and NCTI have a cross licensing agreement for this technology, and NCTI will receive royalties on all product sold which incorporates this technology.

The companies that have produced product are Mission Electronics, Gallant, Kodel, Fujitsu, NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
, Wharfedale and Benwin.

Products incorporating flat panel technology are: The Traveler portable stereo A portable stereo can be
  • A personal stereo, such as the Sony Walkman
  • A boombox, sometimes called a "ghetto blaster"
 system by Kodel; the Mission x-Space three piece satellite/sub system; The Wharfedale LoudPanel(TM) picture speaker system; multimedia speakers from Benwin, Fujitsu and Gallant, and a widescreen front-projection TV screen with built-in left, right and center channel speakers from NEC.
