ProClarity Corporation ProClarity Corporation is a software company specializing in business intelligence. The company was founded in 1995 and is based in Boise, Idaho. ProClarity's products integrate tightly with Microsoft SQL Server, specifically Microsoft Analysis Services. , a leading provider of analytic application technology for the enterprise, today announced ProClarity for Reporting Services, a new product designed to enhance Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services with sophisticated analytical functionality. ProClarity for Reporting Services provides an easy transition from viewing a report to analyzing data with a single mouse click. Business users can gain a better understanding of their reports by using ProClarity to analyze their data without having to request new reports from IT, thereby greatly reducing the time to make faster, smarter decisions.

"For industry partners such as ProClarity, SQL Server An earlier relational DBMS from Sybase and from Microsoft. Sybase introduced SQL Server in 1988 for various Unix versions. In that same year, with help from IBM, Sybase created an OS/2 version that Microsoft licensed and branded as Microsoft SQL Server.  2000 Reporting Services provides a cost-effective, integrated reporting solution that makes it easy to build custom business intelligence applications," said Tom Rizzo, Director of Product Management for Microsoft SQL Server at Microsoft Corp. "This a natural complement to the customizable analytics platform ProClarity provides. Mutual Microsoft and ProClarity customers will benefit from a seamless and comprehensive reporting and analysis solution that empowers employees at every level to have better access to information, increasing their ability to make more-informed decisions and enhance business value."

With the integration of SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services and the ProClarity family, Microsoft and ProClarity will deliver business intelligence (BI) capabilities beyond those available from traditional BI vendors and at a value point that cannot be achieved with other vendors' technology. ProClarity for Reporting Services offers the following benefits to enterprise decision makers by combining the rich relational reporting environment of Reporting Services with the best-in-class analytic capabilities of the ProClarity product family.

Reduce the Time and Effort to Create OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing) Decision support software that allows the user to quickly analyze information that has been summarized into multidimensional views and hierarchies. OLAP tools are used to perform trend analysis on sales and financial information.  Reports

Report authors can now create reports in Reporting Services without having to write complex MDX (MultiDimensional EXpressions) A multidimensional query language. MDX uses syntax similar to SQL, but whereas SQL is used to query relational tables, MDX is used to query multidimensional cubes (OLAP databases). See SQL and OLAP.  queries by hand. OLAP data sets and queries are created using ProClarity's intuitive user interface. ProClarity lets authors create and publish reports using the Reporting Services XML XML
 in full Extensible Markup Language.

Markup language developed to be a simplified and more structural version of SGML. It incorporates features of HTML (e.g., hypertext linking), but is designed to overcome some of HTML's limitations.

). ProClarity also gives authors the ability to create new OLAP data sets -- or edit existing data sets -- for current reports.

Increase Insight and Understanding

Authors can place a link on a Reporting Services report that will take report consumers into ProClarity where they can use ProClarity's patented Decomposition Tree and other advanced visualization features to analyze report data and gain a deeper understanding of their business. This saves a considerable amount of time and helps report authors be more efficient, because report consumers can access relevant data on their own.

Lower Cost of Ownership

IT administrators can now lower the total cost of BI ownership by adopting Microsoft Reporting Services, instead of acquiring a third-party reporting product. A company's investment in SQL Server 2000 and ProClarity is also protected, because both are built on common technology stacks and are completely integrated.

"ProClarity for Reporting Services integrates seamlessly with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services to provide customers and prospects with a comprehensive and cost-effective customizable reporting and analysis solution to meet their unique needs," said Clay Young, senior vice president of ProClarity Corporation. "Existing customers can now enhance their ProClarity applications by adding reporting functionality for a complete BI solution at a value point that cannot be achieved elsewhere."

ProClarity for Reporting Services is designed specifically for use with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Report Designer, and ProClarity(R) Analytics Server. For more information about ProClarity for Reporting Services, visit http://www.proclarity.com/products/reporting_services.
