PrismTech Further Strengthens its Software Defined Radio (SDR) Team with Appointment of Leading Industry Expert Jerry Bickle.BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Jerry Bickle Brings Extensive Experience in Software-Based Communications Technologies to His New Role as Chief Scientist, SDR See software defined radio. Products PrismTech, a leading provider of Software Defined Radio A wireless terminal (phone, PDA, etc.) that is reconfigurable via software. It enables wireless devices to be easily updated to new or later versions of the air interface and allows multiple interfaces to be supported. (SDR) productivity tools and middleware, today announced it had further strengthened its SDR team with the appointment of Jerry Bickle as Chief Scientist, SDR Products. Jerry is a well-respected figure within the SDR community and has been involved in the design and development of SDRs since 1997. Jerry is leading current efforts on the usage of Common Object Request Broker Architecture (standard, programming) Common Object Request Broker Architecture - (CORBA) An Object Management Group specification which provides a standard messaging interface between distributed objects. The original CORBA specification (1. (CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) A software-based interface from the Object Management Group (OMG) that allows software modules (objects) to communicate with each other no matter where they are located on a private network or the global (R)), Unified Modeling Language See UML. (language) Unified Modeling Language - (UML) A non-proprietary, third generation modelling language. The Unified Modeling Language is an open method used to specify, visualise, construct and document the artifacts of an object-oriented software-intensive system (TM) (UML(R)), Model Driven Architecture(R) (MDA (1) (Monochrome Display Adapter) The first IBM PC monochrome video display standard for text. Due to its lack of graphics, MDA cards were often replaced with Hercules cards, which provided both text and graphics. See PC display modes and Hercules Graphics. (R)), eXtensible Markup Language See XML. (language, text) Extensible Markup Language - (XML) An initiative from the W3C defining an "extremely simple" dialect of SGML suitable for use on the World-Wide Web. http://w3.org/XML/. (XML), and C++/C in developing an open architecture for software programmable radios. Jerry was the technical lead and co-author with Dominick Paniscotti for the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS JTRS Joint Tactical Radio System JtRS Just The Right Shoe JTRS Just the Right Size JTRS Johnson Technical Reports Server JTRS Joint Tenancy with Right of Survivorship JTRS Jefferson Township Rescue Squad ) Software Communications Architecture The Software Communications Architecture (SCA) is an open architecture framework that tells designers how elements of hardware and software are to operate in harmony within a software defined radio. SCA is a key element in the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS). (SCA) 2.2 specification. Jerry has also served as a member of the JTRS Technical Architecture Group (TAG) that resolved SCA issues and created the initial set of SCA tutorial material. Jerry, along with Dominick, helped lead the adoption of the SCA in the Software Defined Radio Forum and the formation of the Object Management Group(TM)'s (OMG(TM)) Software Radio Domain Special Interest Group, which is now the OMG Software Based Communication (SBC) Domain Task Force (DTF) that Jerry is a co-chair of. Jerry has been a main contributor on the evolution of the SCA as a commercial standard within the OMG, which is known as the Platform Independent Model (PIM) and Platform Specific Model (PSM) Software Radio Components specification. Jerry has also been involved in the standardization of radio services within the OMG such as the lightweight services (log, naming, event). Prior to joining PrismTech, Jerry worked at Raytheon Company. Jerry holds a Master degree from Northern Illinois University . At PrismTech, Jerry's role will be as Chief Scientist, SDR Products for its new Spectra(TM) product suite. Spectra(TM) addresses the complete SDR software development and deployment lifecycle and supports faster time-to-market, lower costs, and higher quality over traditional SDR development. Spectra(TM) incorporates domain-specific languages, code-generation technologies, and applicable standards to dramatically simplify and speed up the development process and yet ensure high-quality, low over-head solutions. "PrismTech is very privileged to have Jerry joining us," said Dominick Paniscotti, VP Engineering, SDR Products, PrismTech. "I have worked closely with Jerry on standards initiatives at the OMG and the SDR Forum and I'm sure that he will be a great addition to our SDR team." "I'm very excited about joining PrismTech," said Jerry Bickle. "They are currently conducting some very ground breaking SDR product development and I very much look forward to joining the elite SDR team and contributing my expertise." Further information about PrismTech's SDR Spectra(TM) products is available from its website at http://www.prismtech.com/spectra. Notes for Editors About PrismTech Founded in 1992, with offices in the USA and Europe, PrismTech is a privately held software products company. PrismTech serves international Fortune 500 customers in the telecommunications, data communications, defense and aerospace sectors. PrismTech is an acknowledged leader in productivity tools and middleware, with solutions ranging from wide-scale integration to embedded real-time systems, supporting applications from operations support systems Operations Support Systems (also called Operational Support Systems or OSS) are computer systems used by telecommunications service providers. The term OSS most frequently describes "network systems" dealing with the telecom network itself, supporting processes such (OSS) through to software defined radio (SDR).
