Prism200 WAN/LAN/ATM multiport, multitechnology protocol analyzer shipping; New solution for internetwork testing, enabling the testing of new and existing technologies, including ATM, Ethernet, Frame Relay and ISDN, with a single unit.

TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1996--RADCOM announces the immediate shipping of the Prism200 WAN/LAN/ATM analyzer.

Intended for equipment developers and large-scale network integrators, the product offers simultaneous testing of multiport, multitechnology installations.

Design Concept

The Prism200 is a RISC-based analyzer connecting to any PC via the parallel printer port. The analyzer is based on the unique QuadStream(TM) Bus architecture. This design supports present and future test needs, has a plug-in CPU CPU

, memory, front-end data link processors (FEPs) and line interface modules (LIMs). Such FEPs and LIMs are shipping today for LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. , WAN and ATM testing, allowing users to match the configuration of the analyzer to the network under test. Additional CPU and memory boards may be added to enhance processing power.

The Prism200 offers an easy-to-use Microsoft Windows user interface. The software is based on the familiar operating software used in RADCOM's existing ATM, WAN and WAN/LAN analyzers, with special extensions for multitechnology operation. This is a key differentiation for the Prism200, as the Microsoft Windows environment allows integration of data captured or analyzed by the Prism200 with other off-the-shelf applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and communication programs. The software runs under Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 and includes full context-sensitive help.

Extensive Range of Applications

The Prism200 is based on the software and hardware infrastructure of RADCOM's existing product line including the RC-200-C ATM analyzer and the RC-100WL WAN/LAN analyzer. RADCOM products are used extensively today in development, integration and field service environments and have won several awards, the most recent of which being the Data Communication's magazine Hot Product of the Year award. This use of RADCOM's existing software and hardware base enables the Prism200 to immediately support a wide range of applications such as ATM signalling simulation, Frame Relay simulation, X.25 simulation, as well as support of over 200 WAN, LAN and ATM protocols including PNNI (Private Network-to-Network Interface) A routing protocol used between ATM switches in an ATM network. It lets the switches inform each other about network topology so they can make appropriate forwarding decisions. , LAN Emulation, ATM Signalling, ISDN, Frame Relay, TCP/IP TCP/IP

Similar to the IP layer in TCP/IP, it contains a network address and allows messages to be routed to a different network or subnet. , SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) A high-speed, switched data communications service offered by the local telephone companies for interconnecting LANs in different locations. It was introduced in 1992 and became generally available nationwide by 1995.  and PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) The most popular method for transporting IP packets over a serial link between the user and the ISP. Developed in 1994 by the IETF and superseding the SLIP protocol, PPP establishes the session between the user's computer and the ISP using . Protocol support includes English-language decode in three levels of detail, on-line and off-line filtering and graphical analysis as well as automatic encapsulation (1) In object technology, the creation of self-contained modules that contain both the data and the processing.  and protocol identification.

"Our Prism200 customers can immediately enjoy field-proven applications and interfaces, developed through years of collaboration with hundreds of networking professionals" adds Mr. Ben-Arie. "The Prism200 is thus immediately ready for today's demanding applications".

Price

The Prism200 starts at $35,000 for an ATM configuration. A typical configuration supporting two LAN interfaces and an ATM interface lists for $54,500. Additional hardware and software options may be purchased according to customer needs. Existing RADCOM customers can upgrade their current ATM and WAN/LAN products to the Prism200 for a reduced price. These prices set new price and functionality standards for multiport, multitechnology protocol analyzers.
