. Upon entering the bank, they were confronted by a masked gunman who was holding a gun to a teller's head. Officers Dawson, Currier, and Terracciano attempted to negotiate with the gunman, but he threatened to shoot the hostage. The officers fired, and mortally wounded the gunman. The hostage escaped harm. The identity of the gunman led to the eventual identification and capture of two other individuals who had fled the scene. The prompt actions of Officers Dawson, Currier, and Terracciano saved the hostage's life and thwarted thwart
