Prime minister launches children's literacy foundation.

Helen Elizabeth Clark (born February 26, 1950) became Prime Minister of New Zealand in December 1999 and entered her third successive term in that office in 2005.
 has launched a charitable trust The arrangement by which real or Personal Property given by one person is held by another to be used for the benefit of a class of persons or the general public.  aimed at helping children learn to read and write effectively by encouraging parents to share books with them from birth.

Ms Clark officiated at the launch of the Dymocks Literacy Foundation in New Zealand, at which the first of the foundation's projects--Books for NZ Babies--was also announced.

 and the South Auckland South Auckland is an area of Auckland, New Zealand characterised in the popular mind as a socio-economically below-average, and sometimes rough, urban area with a relatively large Polynesian and Māori population.  Health Foundation and will roll out across the country as the literacy foundation develops.

As part of the campaign the Dymocks Literacy Foundation will produce Baby Bookpacks in consultation with Kidz First, comprising a free book and reading tips, to be distributed to parents of premature and critically ill babies in the neonatal unit, with the goal of encouraging them to read to their newborns.

Patrons of the Dymocks NZ Literacy Foundation include two well-known authors--New Zealand children's writer Margaret Mahy and best-selling Australian author Bryce Courtenay.
