Business Editors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2003

Primagraphics, the command & control, video and graphics specialist (www.primagraphics.com), has unveiled its Cobra quad-video windows solution - available as a single-slot 6U VME card See VMEbus.  or as a standalone 2U box-level product.

Cobra is a high-performance, multi-input, video windows processor that can accept up to 12 video inputs and then simultaneously display up to four as windows on a digital flat panel Digital Flat Panel (DFP) is a video connector for flat panel displays. It features 20 pins and uses the PanelLink protocol.

Unlike DVI, DFP never achieved widespread implementation. The connector was used by displays such as the Compaq Presario FP400, FP500 and 5204.
 or analog display.

A selected video source can be scaled to any position on the screen, or can be zoomed to full-screen. Other display configurations include quad-video, picture-in-picture, side-by-side and overlapping windows. Video inputs can be TV, RS170, RS343, STANAG The NATO term derived from "standardization agreement." In addition to video inputs, a high-resolution graphics signal may be input to the card as a separate digital video interface (DVI (1) (Digital Video Interactive) An earlier compression technique that provided up to 72 minutes of full-screen video on a CD-ROM. Acquired by Intel in 1988 from RCA's Sarnoff Research labs, Princeton, NJ, DVI never caught on. ) or analog RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  video to provide an overlay, or background to the windows.

A unique feature of Cobra is the capability to capture the video and graphics data for transfer to a remote host for printing or occasional recording. The Cobra processor can faithfully capture the full-screen or an individual window with no loss of detail, which is particularly important for training, reconnaissance and surveillance applications.

Cobra requires only power from the VME (Virtual Machine Environment) An operating system from Fujitsu Services (formerly ICL) that runs on its Series 39 mainframes. Introduced in 1975, VME is a comprehensive product that provides a variety of utilities for datacenter operations.  connector, and may be completely controlled over the TCP/IP TCP/IP

, RS232 or VME connection.

Three versions of Cobra are available. Cobra 400 supports up to four independently scaled and positioned video windows. Cobra 200 supports two windows and Cobra 100 supports a single video window.

Cobra is designed for sophisticated display applications where there is a requirement for multiple video and graphics signals to be displayed simultaneously, such as in command and control systems, training and simulation, and a wide range of surveillance, reconnaissance and homeland security applications.
