About a dozen men claimed they were assaulted as children between 1965 and 1982. The diocese of Rupert's Land Rupert's Land, Canadian territory held (1670–1869) by the Hudson's Bay Company, named for Prince Rupert, first governor of the company. Under the charter granted (1670) to the company by Charles II, the region comprised the drainage basin of Hudson Bay. , where the assaults took place, is named in several civil lawsuits by people who allege sexual abuse by Mr. Townley-Smith and Charles David Charles David is an American designer of luxury leather goods and shoes. The family owned company began U.S. distribution of European shoes in 1987. Its first retail store opened on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, CA in 1988. In 2005, it had 25 retail stores across the U.  Griggs, who was Mr. Townley-Smith's supervisor at one Winnipeg parish.
