Walkers will take part in the 1.6-mile walk around Como Lake to raise awareness of child abuse and raise funds for PCAMN. About Walk for Children Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota's Walk for Children started in 2001 as a way to carry on the organization's mission of preventing child abuse and neglect by promoting positive parenting and healthy families. Last year's event had more than 600 walkers who raised more than $45,000 to support the organization. About Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota Prevent Child Abuse of Minnesota started in 1979 as the state chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America. The chapter provides programs and services to Minnesota families, including its Circle of Parents support groups. The support groups are led by a trained facilitator and provide opportunities for families to talk about parenting issues. During the support groups, children interact and play with other children under the supervision of a trained leader. The chapter also assists callers through a 1-800-CHILDREN hotline 1.
