President of 2000 Partnership decides to return to academia

Jane Pisano, the driving force behind Los Angeles' effort to craft a strategic blueprint for next century, will soon be motoring back to school for her next challenge.

Pisano, 47, will leave her job as president of the 2000 Partnership Sept. 1 to become dean at USC's School of Public Administration, replacing Ross Clayton.

"I have the opportunity to continue work on important public policy issues for an institution deeply connected to the community," Pisano said. "There are fundamental issues this university can address" in government finance, services and budgeting, the Bethesda, Md., native added.

Since 1986, Pisano has overseen a sweeping city effort -- with the who's who Who’s Who

 of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  -- to generate plans for 21st Century Los Angeles on everything from housing, transportation and jobs to the environment, finance and urban design. The result was the "L.A. 2000 Report" released in late 1988. Since then, the 2000 Partnership has done public outreach and lobbying to implement the report's findings.

Academia is nothing new for Pisano, wife of Mark Pisano, executive director of the Southern California Association of Governments, the region's planning agency.

Jane Pisano holds a Ph.D. in foreign affairs from Johns Hopkins University Johns Hopkins University, mainly at Baltimore, Md.
