To place a call, a customer simply dials (800) 644-2607, announce their name in their native language and dials the number using their voice. Called parties accept the calls by saying "yes" or "si." Calls are placed using any telephone and completed without operator assistance providing collect convenience to the caller and efficiency to the service providers.

In addition to the simplicity of Preferred's voice-activated collect calling feature, collect callers and the parties they call will be eligible to receive a variety of prizes as incentives for using the service. Each interstate call qualifies to win prizes ranging from sports bottles and T-shirts to cameras and televisions. The caller is advised of their winnings during their call.

"Since the advent of dial around capabilities, we have noticed a decline in pay phone revenues," said Tim Moline, Greyhound's director of new product development. "Many of our passengers make collect calls. The fact Preferred developed this program and is willing to launch it in English and Spanish should greatly enhance its opportunity for success."

Preferred Collect's language recognition and dialing capabilities were developed with enabling technologies from Voice Control Systems, Inc. (VCS (1) (Verilog Computer Simulator) See Verilog.
