Scan Modul System uses bar coding technologies to help hospitals track inventories and expenses. Estimates indicate that hospitals have more than $11 billion in waste in their supply chains. By tracking what supplies are used by what personnel, and for what patients, hospitals can begin to analyze their costs to determine where money can be saved. It also allows for automatic updates to patient bills based on supplies used.

Positive Patient Identification and specimen, transfusion and medication tracking are provided by Lattice Inc.'s Medicopia solution. Through the use of bar codes, Lattice's technology allows hospitals to ensure that the correct medication and lab tests are matched with the appropriate patients. This technology is aimed at reducing the large number of preventable medical errors See also medical error
