Precision Castparts wins XM777 Howitzer casting contract. (Industry News).Precision Castparts Corp. BAE Systems was formed (1999) from the merger of British Aerospace (BAe) with Marconi Electronic Systems. to provide titanium castings for the XM777 155mm Lightweight Howitzer howitzer: see artillery. . "Our leading edge technical capability will provide our customer with substantial cost savings." Under the terms of the contract, PCC will build 22 of the 28 titanium investment casings per weapon. The XM777 is a towed weapon designed to replace the U.S. Army and Marine Corps' M198 howitzers. A pilot production unit was delivered two months ago for strength of design and accuracy evaluation. Low-rate initial production of the XM777 is scheduled to begin in November. |
