PrairieComm Announces CDMA Processor for 3G Wireless Telephony; New CDMA2000 1X Baseband Processor To Support Third-Generation Cellular Standards.

Business Editors and High-Tech Writers

HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2000

PrairieComm Inc. Monday announced June availability of its new PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

(2) (Peripheral Component Interconnect) The most widely used I/O bus (peripheral bus).
2010 integrated baseband processor supporting the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. 2000 1X standard for third-generation -- "3G" -- wireless communications wireless communications

.

The PCI2010 builds on PrairieComm's existing PCI9501 Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) baseband processor and will support the high data rates and improved handset standby times made possible by the CDMA2000 1X standard. PrairieComm also announced today several upgrades to its CDMA call processing In telecommunication, the term call processing has the following meanings:
  1. The sequence of operations performed by a switching system from the acceptance of an incoming call through the final disposition of the call.
software. Used in conjunction with the new PCI2010 baseband processor, PCI9500 call processing software from PrairieComm will allow wireless handset OEMs to incorporate 3G wireless communications technology quickly and cost-effectively.

" 3G device, the PCI2010 will assist cellular networks worldwide in the transition from second- to third-generation technology. Supporting both existing and emerging CDMA standards for wireless telephony telephony without wires, usually employing electric waves of high frequency emitted from an oscillator or generator, as in wireless telegraphy. A telephone transmitter causes fluctuations in these waves, it being the fluctuations only which affect the receiver.

, PrairieComm's new baseband processor enables handset manufacturers to build cellular phones that operate on current networks, as well as future networks deployed to support 3G standards such as CDMA2000 1X. With increased data rates of up to 153kbps/second, 3G cellular service will offer subscribers true Web browsing and other data-intensive applications. Integration of the PCI2010 by handset OEMs will help drive adoption of 3G cellular among consumers and allow service providers to support twice as many subscribers as currently possible on existing networks.

"PrairieComm is prepared to help bring the next generation of wireless products to market," said John Diehl, PrairieComm president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "The PCI2010 baseband processor is a natural extension of PrairieComm's expertise in second-generation CDMA technology and will afford our customers faster design cycles in an increasingly competitive global environment."

PrairieComm's PCI2010 baseband processor complies with the 1X specification for CDMA2000 cellular telephony and is backward compatible Refers to hardware or software that is compatible with earlier versions of the product. Also called "downward compatible." Contrast with forward compatible.

By leveraging its common IS95, IS136 (TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). ) and GSM baseband platforms, PrairieComm provides handset and other wireless device manufacturers a combination of advanced 3G technology and rapid product development capability.

PrairieComm's updated PCI9500 CDMA call processing software works in unison with the PCI2010 for a complete CDMA2000 1X solution. By incorporating both product offerings, handset designers can implement 3G functionality faster with less overhead expense than developing proprietary 3G hardware and software IP. Revisions to the CDMA call processing software include IS2000 Release A and IS95B support. The current version of PrairieComm's PCI9500 CDMA software is available now.

"Between the PCI2010 processor and PCI9500 software, PrairieComm is offering handset manufacturers a soup-to-nuts solution for integrating 3G wireless technology," said Jim Kamke, PrairieComm vice president of Product Marketing. "Our charter is providing `The Power To Compete,' and on-time delivery of PrairieComm's first CDMA2000 1X device indicates our continued strength in meeting the needs of handset OEMs worldwide."
