Each chapter is self-contained with links to related chapters so you can start anywhere! "Adding Blinkers blinkers 1. rigid pieces of leather fitted to a head harness at a point where they will obstruct the horse's lateral vision. 2. a more sophisticated piece of harness worn by expensive horses consisting of a canvas head-covering with holes for the ears to protrude and two to shut out the things we shouldn't be working on" emphasizes the importance of staying focused on small tasks and includes simple steps to achieve that goal. Some of my other favorites include "Triggers--setting up cues that get you practicing in the first place" and "Scouting--getting to know your new piece before you start practicing it." Although the text is clever, concise and contemporary, a few changes would make the book more user-friendly. The pagination (1) Page numbering. (2) Laying out printed pages, which includes setting up and printing columns, rules and borders. Although pagination is used synonymously with page makeup, the term often refers to the printing of long manuscripts rather than ads and brochures. is in the top-middle. I would have found it more convenient on the right. The chapter guide serves as the table of contents and should follow the title page. It is located on page 10 following several introductory pages. Color icons, instead of gray, in the chapter guide and used throughout the book would add appeal. This 376-page encyclopedia is intended for school-age students and their parents, but I think it belongs on the music stand and piano rack of every practicing musician!
