Powerwave Technologies Introduces GSM PCS Single Carrier Booster Amplifier.

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1998--Powerwave Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:PWAV) Thursday announced the introduction of its single carrier Booster amplifier solution for GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) A digital cellular phone technology based on TDMA that is the predominant system in Europe, but also used worldwide. Developed in the 1980s, GSM was first deployed in seven European countries in 1992. 1900 and DCS (1) See also DSC.

(2) Digital Cross-connect System) A network switching and grooming device used by telecom carriers. See digital cross-connect.
1800 networks, which will be on display at PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1.  '98, September 23-25, 1998 in Orlando, Fla. Powerwave is located at Booth 851.

The GSM Booster solution is targeted for use in GSM base stations in the 1800 and 1900 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  frequency bands requiring range extension or improved in-building coverage. The Powerwave Booster solution supports up to 6 transceivers in sectorized or omni configurations and is capable of providing up to 80 Watts of RF power per carrier, significantly increasing a cell site's coverage area. In addition to providing potential cost savings by reducing the requirement for additional base stations in a network, the operator has a solution that can grow as capacity demands increase.

"Powerwave is proud to announce this new PCS amplifier application," stated Bruce C. Edwards, president and chief executive officer of Powerwave Technologies. "With the addition of our GSM Booster amplifier solution, GSM1900 and DCS1800 networks can benefit from the range extension, size and cost advantages of this product."
