ATLANTA & FARMINGDALE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2002

PowerDsine(R), the leader of Power over LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. SIPit 11 (SIP Interoperability Test) event, taking place in Atlanta at the Cobb Galleria Cobb Galleria is a large office park with six skyscrapers located in the Cumberland/Vinings district of Cobb and sandwiched between Marietta, Smyrna, Sandy Springs and Atlanta.  from Oct 7-11, 2002, is open to implementers who work with SIP implementations. Objectives include advancement of SIPs as a global interoperable protocol for real time Internet communication services.

The purpose of the event is to test for interoperability of SIP implementations, while performing interoperability tests of various SIP implementations.

Power over LAN is an innovative technology that allows next generation IP telephones and wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  access points to safely and reliably receive data and power over a single standard Category 5 twisted pair A thin-diameter wire (22 to 26 gauge) commonly used for telephone and network cabling. The wires are twisted around each other to minimize interference from other twisted pairs in the cable (Alexander Graham Bell invented this and was awarded a patent for it in 1881).  LAN cables. As a result, enterprises can deploy these devices without the time and cost required to install separate power cabling.

With the PowerDsine Power over LAN midspans, enterprises can install a scalable solution, gradually adding more IP phones to the network. The PowerDsine 6000 series Power over LAN midspans are IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.3af (power over Ethernet Power over Ethernet or PoE technology describes a system to transmit electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network. ) compliant and feature 1, 6, 12 or 24 ports. There is also an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  option of remote monitoring and control of the devices.

"PowerDsine is an important player in the VoIP market and Power over LAN is an integral part of deployment and management of an enterprise's IP telephony network," said Richard Bauer, president, PowerDsine, Inc. "The SIPit event is a fantastic arena for sharing the benefits of our products with other leading vendors in the VoIP industry."

As the market leader of Power over LAN technology and one of the founding members of the IEEE 802.3af Task Force, PowerDsine is helping to set the global standard for distributing power over converged voice-data communications networks.

PowerDsine offers IEEE 802.3af compliant Power over LAN products for patch-panel like devices and as a Single Inline Package that can be easily integrated into cutting-edge Ethernet switches.

Over 130 engineers and developers will demonstrate technologies at SIPit 11 from over 60 companies and 15 countries.

About PowerDsine

PowerDsine (www.powerdsine.com) is the leading player in Power over LAN(TM) technology providing the ability to deliver both power and data over a single network cable. PowerDsine offers converged power and data solutions to corporate users via it own range of equipment and via OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  agreements with the leading communications equipment manufacturers in the telecom and datacom industries.

PowerDsine's product line offers a variety of Power over LAN midspan devices as well as integrated solutions, which are embedded directly into Ethernet switches. PowerDsine is a founding member of the IEEE 802.3af Task Force leading the development of an industry standard for remotely powering Ethernet devices over the LAN infrastructure.

In June 2002, the company was awarded most outstanding emerging European hi-tech company of 2002 at Tornado Insider's UpStart Europe event in Amsterdam.
