This product is a one-port model that is designed for Ethernet-connected devices that have high-power consumption requirements such as Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) network cameras as well as color touch-screen Voice over IP (VoIP) phones and multi-channel wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Demonstrations of the one-port 8001 HighPoE Midspan will be available at PowerDsine Booth# 26099 from April 6-8 during ISC West 2005 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas. The single-port model complements the existing six- and 12- port versions of the 8000 HighPoE Midspan family and offers a cost-effective solution for small enterprise environments.

We believe that the PowerDsine 8001 Midspan will reduce the time and costs associated with installation of the related end-device because PoE technology eliminates the need to wire additional AC outlets. For example, IP-based surveillance cameras often need to monitor specific targets such as doorways, data centers, parking lots and remote warehouses. In order to be effective, these cameras often have to be installed in places that are difficult to reach such as ceilings or exterior walls. In these and similar places, it is unlikely to find an existing electrical outlet and it is often costly and difficult to run electrical wires and install AC outlets.

"We learned from our resellers and distributors that end-users were demanding more power for niche applications. Manufacturers who are in the process of producing PTZ network cameras, IP phones and multi-channel wireless LAN access points also inquired about high-power solution for these terminals which consume more than the 15.4 Watts as specified in the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard," said Igal Rotem, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of PowerDsine. "Because our customers are demanding high-power PoE midspan solutions, PowerDsine is among other industry leaders that are currently committed to working with the IEEE to explore a higher power PoE standard."

To date, the IEEE has formed a new 802.3 study group dubbed "PoEplus" to investigate the development of a high-power PoE standard that is capable of powering devices requiring more than 15.4 Watts of power, as specified in the existing IEEE 802.3af PoE standard.

Availability

Samples of the single-port 8001 HighPoE Midspan are immediately available, with general availability in July 2005.

About Power over Ethernet Technology

PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. PoE allows the electrical power necessary for the operation of each end-device, to be carried by data cables rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires that must be used in order to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility.

About PowerDsine

PowerDsine(TM) (NASDAQ:PDSN) designs, develops and supplies integrated circuits, modules and systems that enable the implementation of Power over Ethernet in local area networks, providing the capability to deliver and manage electrical power over data network cables. PowerDsine offers integrated products and system solutions to communications equipment manufacturers in the telecom and datacom industries who incorporate them into, or bundle them with, their products. PowerDsine is a founding member of the IEEE 802.3af Task Force. For more information, please visit http://www.powerdsine.com
