Power3 Medical's Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Ira Goldknopf, Contributions to the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry Cited by the Swedish Academy of Sciences.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTCBB: PWRM) and Dr. Ira L. Goldknopf, Chief Scientific Officer, would like to congratulate Dr. Aaron Ciechanover, Dr. Avram Hershko, and Dr. Irwin Rose for having been selected to receive this year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The three scientists working collectively discovered ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis, a process where an enzyme system tags unwanted proteins with many molecules of the 76-amino acid residue protein ubiquitin.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which awards the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, announced this year's winners and also acknowledged the early work of Dr. Goldknopf, specifically citing his discovering of the ubiquitin conjugation of proteins. According to Dr. Goldknopf, "I remember when I first heard of their work. It was an incredible discovery and an enormous breakthrough! They showed conclusively how ubiquitin conjugation marks proteins for disposal by the cell. In the ensuing years, their work, along with that of many others in thousands of publications, has demonstrated how the ubiquitin system integrates protein inventory control, cell division and cell death, and that disturbances in this system are involved in cancer, neurodegenerative, and cardiovascular disease."

At the Second International Conference on Ubiquitin, Ubiquitin-Like Proteins, and Cancer, held in February 2004, Dr. Goldknopf presented the company's breast ductal fluid protein test (NAF Test) for early detection of breast cancer. The test demonstrates that certain changes in the ubiquitin system apparently take place very early and offer a glimpse at the mechanism of early breast cancer development.
