Power groups eye Ministry's green RFP.
Ojibway Power, Energy Group Ltd., and Brascan Power Inc. are
developing hydroelectric generation sites on the Namakan and Aguasabon
River The Aguasabon River (IPA: /ɔɡwæsɑbɪn/) is a river in Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada, which has its origin at Long Lake and empties into Lake Superior. .
The estimated 22 megawatts of emission-free power the plants would
generate would be enough to supply 20,000 homes. The intent will be to
build hydroelectric facilities, then bid into the Ministry of
Energy's Request For Proposals (RFPs) for energy supply.
The hydroelectric site development on Crown land will contribute to
the government's target of generating five per cent more of
Ontario's total energy capacity from new renewable sources by 2007.
