Town Hall L.A. President Adrienne Medavar said Reliant canceled Letbetter's scheduled appearance because of the difficult environment in California. Enron did not give an official reason for the postponement, other than to say there were "issues pending" in California.

Perhaps the postponement of Lay's visit had something to do with a contempt citation issued against Enron last week by the state Senate Select Committee to Investigate Price Manipulation in the Wholesale Energy Market after Enron failed to turn over subpoenaed documents to the committee.
