WHSmith will manage the branch on behalf of Post Office Ltd following the successful trial of six post offices in WHSmith stores across the country in 2006.
Ian Rowley, WHSmith Regional Manager, said: "At a time when so many branches face an uncertain future, this is good news for Post Office customers in Birkenhead."
The newbranch, which will be renamed Birkenhead Post Office, will have eight serving positions, which will be a mixture of open plan and traditional style positions.
